The police are convinced that he is part of the local mafia and are trying to get him to confess. One day his grandfather sends him a letter:
"Vittorio, I am too old to be digging up the garden by myself. It's too bad you are in jail because now we won't have tomatoes this year. Your grandpa misses you."
